All About Eve

With waiting lists averaging at least 3 months at her London salon, Eve Lom is one of the world’s most famous facialists and her skincare has garnered a global legion of devotees dedicated to her holistic-yet-minimalist philosophy. Believing in the basics of good cleansing as the key to effective skincare, Eve’s luxurious skincare collection grew from the creation of her cult cleanser. We went one-on-one with Eve to learn a little more about the women behind this cult brand.

Mecca: For those who are new to Eve Lom, can you describe your brand in three words?

Eve: Less is more.

M: How did you come to create your own skincare range?

E: Desperation by seeing too many rough, dry, oily and dry combined conditions with blocked pores, led to a different way of cleansing, which is the most important thing in any skin regime.

M: Your cleanser has been named by many (including Vogue) as ‘world’s best cleanser.’ What makes it so amazing?

E: Removes eye make-up and all other paints!  Decongests and exfoliates with one stroke.  In other words quick, simple and efficient.

M: Why is cleansing with the muslin cloth so important, as opposed to say, cleansing with your hands?

E: Cloth introduces the heat to soften the skin, promotes blood circulation i.e. brings nutrition to the skin.  Eliminates dead skin through exfoliation, in other words, leaves the skin squeaky clean.

M: Your range is a favourite amongst celebrities – do you still get star struck by anyone?

E: I was ‘struck’ by a BA steward on a flight to NY, staring at his skin throughout the flight, seeing the skin clear and glowing left me questioning how he does it.  Just before landing at JFK, he slightly bent over my seat and said ARE YOU THE …..?  and I cut him short, by completely shooting in the dark and asked him ‘How long have you been using the cleanser?’ and his answer was 12 YEARS!

M: We understand you divide your time between London and Paris – do you notice a difference in women’s attitudes to skincare between the two?

E: Yes the French woman is concerned with perfumes, moisturisers and cellulite;  the English with texture and wrinkles.

M: What do you think is the biggest mistake women make in regards to their skincare?

E: They make their skin drunk with potions and lotions.

M: How do you unwind after a long day?

E: Preferably with a glass of rose champagne.

M: Beauty and fashion have always been intrinsically linked. What are some of your favourite designers?

E: The founder of Joseph, JOSEPH ETTEDGUI, was my hero.  He knew how to dress women, impatient women like me who have no sense of frills and fashion, in a chic, soft and comfortable way.  He was French Moroccan and sadly died a few months ago, and has left me out on a limb.

M: What is your favourite holiday destination and why?

E: My home is my castle.
